It is with great pleasure that we can finally announce the demise of Pants. One of the band ( who shall remain nameless, if that's ok with you, Fal ) flounced off in a big girly huff after a rehearsal back in November....and was never seen again. After the initial " what a fucking ponce" reaction from the remaining members of the band it soon dawned on them all that flouncing off in a big girly huff was exactly what they'd have loved to have done too....So, after a remarkably short period of time, everyone was the best of chums again. Hurrah! .
One gig was cancelled at very short notice; Moose, Dan and Ollie (sic) cobbled together a punk covers set under the name of Bastard Squad ...but, just as some bands are destined to stubbornly hang around for 11 years getting slowly fatter, more under-rehearsed and much less amusing, others are destined to be the one-use-only syringe that ends up in the sharps bin; such was Bastard Squad.
So. What are we all doing now?
Moose and Ollie (sic) formed The Pieshop Boys . Have a listen to the choice audio teasers on their site. Fucking brilliant stuff!
Fal formed The Klaus Barbie Dolls with long-time friend Jon Berry. As of yet it's just the two of them, with the possibility of drummer extraordinairre Lee Cann joining them fairly soon. It's been a slow start, due to work commitments and an uncanny Pants-like aversion to getting off their collective arses and actually rehearsing. As such there's only been a couple of living-room rehearsals over a few beers... but the results were surprisingly encouraging.
Dan decided he'd had enough of being in bands and was adamant he was giving it all up and selling all his gear. As far as flouncing off like a big girl's flouncy pink blouse goes it beat Fal's big flounce of the previous November by a good 40%.
Fal and Moose have been collaborating ( mainly via facebook, although they did meet up for a quick beer on Saturday afternoon ) on various bits and bobs of Pants memorabilia for online archive purposes, including a full account of everything they ever recorded . BTW... none of the mp3 links on this site work any longer...but no matter. Remixed/tidied up versions of everything will be available on Moose's site fairly soon...along with some video and stuff. Anyway.. in the process of all this they had a chat about an idea they had way back in 2003. In fact, there was a news item about it. Whilst discussing a possible line-up it transpired that Dan had renounced his big girly flounce of a few days earlier and would be available for drumming duties again. So....the possible line-up may well be Ollie (sic) , Moose, Dan and Fal.....Which sounds strangely familiar indeed...
As for Pants....the subject of a reunion tour came up very briefly. Moose puts it rather well on the current Bunch of Arse website... " Although gone, Pants are not quite forgotten, and may yet deliver a Lazarus style resurrection of biblical proportions, if anyone can be arsed."
