I was born in 1966 in Mexico after my mum successfully evaded American/Mexican border patrols on the Rio Grande in order to seek political asylum in Mexico and, therefore, dodge the draft that was, at that time, sending many good Americans to their deaths in Vietnam. My father tried, so I am told, to persuade her that heavily pregnant british women on holiday were not likely to be called up....but she was having none of it, so i ended up being born in a small town called El Porvenir, delivered by a "Doctor" Chico Gonzales who, it later transpired, was actually Mexico's most prolific serial killer of the 1960s....

Five years later Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese and my mum decided that it was now safe to return to America.....and from there, a mere two months later, she brought me, and my new baby sister, to England. ( just after my sister's birth in 1967 my father ran off with a dentist called Emilio...so at this point it was just the three of us ). At the tender age of six I was enrolled in my first english school. I could, at this point, only speak five words of English ( "bugger off you bloody sod" ), and was therefore somewhat excluded from everything. It was here though that i met Moose for the first time. He was only five but, as luck would have it, spoke fluent Spanish. It was the start of a friendship that has lasted for 30 years....of all the bands I've ever been in, Pants remains my favourite. Mainly because I don't have to write anything and Dan gives me sweets if I sit on his lap.
